Mother

by: Amira Najihah

Should we go eat together today she asked,
I said I have meeting.

When will you return home she asked,
I said I have lot of things to do.

Texted and phone calls from her...
I had been ignoring them.

She is no longer my number one priority.
After goes by, I realized something is missing.

I feel empty.
The missing spot is the time I missed to spend time with her.

She is my mother.
I promised from now on, I will spend more time with you mother...

From,
a child who missed the mother.

Mother

by: Firdaus

This is an essay about mothers. First and foremost what is a mother? Without going to the dictionary (not that I have one laying around), I would say mother is someone who loves you unconditionally. It’s hard nowadays to define what a mother is. Imagine if I was a writer for the New York times and I said, technically mother is someone who gave birth to you. Imagine the backlash from step parents and the LGBT communities if they heard that. So I’m going to stay safe and said mother is someone who loves you unconditionally, no matter what you did, what you didn’t do, if you didn’t study for a test and instead wrote an essay because you’re trying to procrastinate from opening your books, no matter what, in  end your mother is going to love you. That’s what most people think of about their mother isn’t?
Now that raises a few questions, such as, can your girlfriend be your mother? First, that’s a weird question, second I think she can be if she wants to, she can do whatever she wants to in her life, granted she follows the law. So if she wants to be your mother, I say go ahead. I don’t see the point but she have to choose though whether she wants to be your girlfriend or your mother. She can’t be both because that would he weird. Is there a point to what I’m writing? Am I just making this up as I go? Yes to both, the point is anyone can be your mother if you let them. Because let’s face it, life isn’t fair sometimes.
Some people might not be so lucky to have a mother in their life. So if you are feeling down and feel unloved, I would say you should go out and start saying “mommy?” to your professors or friends or even strangers. They might be weirded out and sent you to mental hospital but at least you would know, they are not the mother you deserve. Plus, if you keep asking that eventually someone will say yes, persistent is key in life. And if you do meet someone like that, please let me know cause I’m kind of curious how someone like that can exist. Okay for safety reasons maybe you should not do that. What I am trying to say is, you get to decide your mother.
It’s maybe too late now that you all grown up, but everyone needs a mother, no matter how old you are, how many mistakes you made, everyone need somebody who loves them as you are. Don’t blame your parents or life for how things turn out they way that it did. You would only go downhill if you did that. Instead you can make a powerful little thing called  a choice, and live your life the way you want to. I know I make it like it’s so easy. I don’t know, life is complicated I guess. I could never imagine if you grew up with a messed up mother who sexually abused you or mentally tortured you. Life isn’t fair sometimes. I hope you pull it through in the end. Maybe I can be your mother if no one else want to. Not that I have a great parenting skills or something. I can barely motivate myself to study. But I think you’ll do just fine and hope that you can find your mother.

Guitar is My Friend

by: Vincent Lew

I remember the reason that I choose to play guitar. I was 14, at that age, I am fanatical with a singer and I admire her very much, Taylor Swift, who has billions of loyal fans. She is the reason why I’m having two guitars right now. I am obsessed with every song that she wrote, and it cause me to refuse listening to other singers’ songs. I can say that, I’m growing up with her and her songs inspire my whole teenage years. At that time, I hope that I can play every song that she composed with her favourite musical instrument which is guitar. Then, I bought my very first guitar when I was 16.

At the outset, I learned playing guitar through my teacher, Youtube. I struggled as all the guitar beginners, frustrations bursting my head. I kept practicing, watching guitar tutorials until I have learned the basic, how to play chords and how to strum. From this learning process, I know that it all comes with the dedication and practice make perfect. After I have the basic skills about guitar, I spent 3 hours per day to learn about music and improve my hands flexibility. Gradually, I listen to different kind of songs. Undeniably, every goal has its cost, it always causes pain to my fingertips after I practice guitar after a long time. However, satisfaction always over the pain.

Days by days, songs by songs, I can see that I’m becoming an intermediate guitarist, I bought a second guitar with my own money. Since that day, I start to improve my guitar skill by memorize every single note on the guitar fret by my left hand and manipulate different advanced strumming pattern by my right hand. I remember that the very first complete arranged song that I can play is ‘Long live’ by my idol. Because of this song’s lyrics, melody and harmony, my life has been motivated.

Now, in UMP, I am recruited as a guitarist by a music band, Utopia which is formed by my dear pianist roommate. At there, I meet new friends with unique music talent, I learned a lot of music theory from them. Then, we have performed in many events that held in this university without receiving any payment, because our music band’s purpose is to spread the love and enthusiasm towards music. I’m glad for joining this band and guitar makes me indispensable in this band.

Without guitar, I am nothing.

Music

by: Putri Nur Shahida

In every corner of the world, the people listen to music. Music has an explicit meaning in many people’s lives. Music has influenced me in different ways and has always been a part of my life since early children years.

Music is a very important factor to many people in the world today. People may use music as a therapy and comfort. Music is considered as one of the two most precious gifts from God. There are so many things that people cherish about music. Music is made for the enjoyment of people of every age. In my adolescent years, I have used music in helping others out but I feel three things are prominent in the sound of music. Three aspects reflect my image of music such as relaxation of the soul, creativity of the mind and connection of others.

One aspect that is prominent in music is relaxation for the soul. First and foremost, relaxation is a motivation in people’s lives today. Various may encounter forest sounds, ocean sounds, and rain sounds. Relaxation can help many people in the stressful world today and it helps loosen muscles in your body. Calming music can help people clear their mind on a brain boggling day. I always pick out my favourite sounds out of the song and focus on that one sound. Often when people do this, it helps them focus on a tranquil sound and it keeps their mind off of the dilemmas they had that day.

When people listen to music, some may have a favourite instrument that they like to listen to. Various types of music will have a variety of instruments, ranging from flugelhorn, trumpet, bass, drums, guitar and saxophone. All of these instruments are key factors in music today. People may have a favourite instrument and go to a store and buy music just from that instrument. Today more and more people are turning to instrumental music to help relieve stress from their body after a hard working day.

In the nutshell, music is very influential and has become part of life to some people.

I'm Looking for a Song

by: Zaim Sakeri

I'm looking for a song,
A music that ease my heart,
Ease my burden and you&.

I'm looking for a song,
A soothing melody for my mind,
Emptying my mind from ur problems

I'm looking for a song,
A heartbroken song,
For a broken heart.

I'm looking for a song,
That slipped into the crevices of time,
Included in the soul.
So that your love,
flowing immortal.

Music I heard

by: Azmi Ibrahim

Music I heard with you was more than music,
And bread I broke with you was more than bread,
Now that I am without you, all is desolate,
All that was once so beautiful is dead.

Your hands once touched this table and thuis silver,
And I have seen your fingers hold this glass,
These things do not remember you, beloved,

And yet your touch upon them will not pass.

For it was in my heart that you moved among them,
And blessed them with your hands and with your eyes,
And in my heart they will remember always,
They knew you once, beautiful and wise.

Real Melody

by: H.N. Alia

It is a lovely melody
You find a calming way when you put in it
Your mind to it
Every beats of the sound
Can make you dance and dance
It take your whole life to the fantasy
It is just you and your world caught in the music

Say you go through the darkest of days
Listen to it, feel it the pleasure
You got no pressure as it makes you feel better
Turn on the volume of the sounds
Whenever you feel down
Somewhere in the crowd or even in your emptiness
Till your heart feels the rhythm
And your fingers feel alive

Throughout the day and night
The tune keeps streaming in your mind
Running in your blood
Moving in your veins
With the real melody
It brings 4 seasons in your life
With every beats that you count
Yet the music ends
Hopefully your pain also will go away
