POEM RECITATION:
RULES & GUIDELINES
Poetry Recitation is a
competition organised in conjunction with the English Language Fest 2018. The
competition aims at encouraging the use of English through meaning, sound and
rhythmic language of students. It builds confidence in students to memorize,
speak, render and express themselves in English.
Competition Rules
i.
Eligibility
·
This competition is open to ALL students of UMP.
ii.
Time
·
Participants are given recitation time of 4-6
minutes each.
iii.
Text
& Theme
·
Participants are required to choose a poem they
want to recite and recite the poem in his/her own style.
·
Participants are also free to choose the theme
of the poem as long as the poem recited does not touch on sensitive issues,
such as race, religion, stereotyping, politics etc.
·
Participants may also choose to present an
entirely authentic and original poem.
·
The softcopy of the poem must be sent to the
organiser by 9th November 2018 so that the organiser may gauge the
appropriacy of the poem. Please send your poem to delstudents.editor@gmail.com.
Feedbacks will be given soonest.

Please be advised that your poem may be
published on UMP Writers Club blog.

Participation
·
This competition calls for individual
participation.
v.
Poem
Recitation
·
The poem recitation is scheduled on 17th
November 2018 at Astaka. Participants will be notified if there are any updates
or changes to the date, time and venue.
·
Participants are not allowed to refer to any
notes or printed materials during the recitation.
vi.
Attire
·
Participants may use costumes during the
recitation if they wish. However no marks will be allocated.
vii.
Exclusions
·
There should be no inclusion of singing, music,
drama, costume, props or artificial sound effects.
·
Any inclusion of skit or physical movement
should enhance and not dominate the presentation. (A theatrical performance of
the poem is wholly discouraged).
viii.
Stage
Arrangement
·
Participants will only be provided with 1
microphone.
ix.
Judges
·
Judges will be appointed by the ELF 2018
organisers.
x.
Decisions
·
Points will be awarded according to the score
sheet.
·
Judges will collectively determine the placing
by a clear majority vote.
·
The decision of the judges is final.
·
Individual marks will not be disclosed.

·
Attractive prizes await!
